All the Party Vibes: Let’s Talk Wedding Food

You love their food. You eat there all the time. And they cater!

You think..wedding dinner - handled.

Well…let’s have a little conversation first.

Your favorite restaurant or food truck may cater your wedding but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a full-service wedding caterer. And you need to know that before your guests are looking around with empty plates in their hands.

Let’s talk about what you’re serving—and who’s taking care of everything that comes with it.

First, Ask yourself “what kind of party are we having?”

Are we doing all the party vibes? Tacos, cocktails, a little mingling, a lot of dancing?

Or are we settling in for dinner with dressed tables, vintage china, glassware, and everybody gathered around for a while?

We love a good party. We also love a beautiful dinner. You can absolutely have both.

But the food, the table setup, and the service need to work together. Tell us what you’re picturing, and let’s figure out what it takes to make that happen.

“We cater” is the beginning of the conversation

Wedding catering. Event catering. Restaurant catering. The name alone doesn’t tell you what’s included.

One provider may set up a lovely display, serve dinner, keep the buffet filled, clear tables, and clean the food-service area. Another may bring the food, wish you a beautiful wedding, and head out.

That second option can work. We just need to know who’s handling the rest.

Before you book, ask:

  • Who sets up the food and serving equipment?

  • Who serves and replenishes the buffet?

  • Who’s bussing tables and collecting glasses?

  • Who handles trash throughout the evening?

  • Who washes dishes or packs rentals for return?

  • What exactly does cleanup include?

Get those answers in your proposal. “I thought they were doing it” is a conversation we would rather have before the wedding.

And your auntie came dressed for a celebration, so let’s keep her out of the kitchen.

Yes, you can have pizza at your wedding

You want pizza? Let’s have pizza.

Tacos? Absolutely.

That food truck you’ve been following around Asheville? Let’s talk.

Your wedding food should be something you’re excited to eat. But serving your usual dinner order and feeding a whole wedding are two different things.

If everything is made to order, how long will it take to feed everyone? Where will the line go? Will the last table still be waiting when the first table is ready to dance?

Ask your provider how they handle a group your size. Talk through the timing with your planner.

And yes, pizza can look lovely on vintage china. The menu doesn’t have to be formal for the table to be beautiful.

We just need a plan for those dishes afterward.

Pick a lane with your plates

At Haiku, we keep this part simple: do all disposables or all real for your meal’s tableware.

Going disposable? Choose sturdy plates and utensils that can handle what you’re serving. A plate should survive the trip from the buffet to the table.

Then make sure someone is clearing tables and keeping up with the trash. Disposable doesn’t mean it disappears.

Using china, flatware, and glassware? Lovely. Arrange for the people who will collect, scrape, wash, or pack those pieces as needed.

We want your tables to look good throughout dinner. Your guests shouldn’t have to stack used plates beside the flowers to make room for dessert.

The flowers can be the centerpiece. The used plates cannot.

The dishes are included. The extra hands need a plan.

Haiku’s vintage china, flatware, dining tables, linens, and glassware are included in every wedding package.

Have your eye on a different look? You’re welcome to rent additional or alternative pieces from local providers like PPR or Curated Events. We want you to love your tables.

But having the dishes and having someone to handle them are separate things.

Couples select, book, and pay their licensed and insured food provider. Before the wedding, we need to know who’s responsible for food setup, dinner service, bussing, dishes, and food-service cleanup.

Depending on what your caterer includes, you may need additional servers, bussing staff, or a dishwasher.

Put that help in the budget from the beginning. When you compare catering proposals, compare the food and the service. A lower food quote may still need staffing added to it.

Now, let’s have a good party

Feed your people something delicious. Set a table you love. Have enough help to keep the evening moving.

Then sit down and eat your own wedding dinner. Please.

We want you enjoying your people, having another bite, and making your way to the dance floor. A little planning behind the scenes gives you more time for all the party vibes.
